Fishman Elected as Lincolnville, Maine Selectmen

As reported today in the Bangor Daily News (BDN), Phish’s drummer Jon Fishman has been elected as selectman for Lincolnville’s five-member selectboard. Receiving 356 votes, Fishman came in second to Josh Gerritsen, a designer, filmmaker and son of novelist Tess Gerritsen, resulting in both candidates filling the vacant seats on the board.

Fishman said he was inspired to run for local office by the campaign of former presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont. Fishman was active in Sanders’ campaign, speaking at rallies leading up to the election, not to mention the Sanders silhouette donut dress from last summer’s tour.

“I guess I could sit on my butt somewhere and not be engaged,” the drummer said when announcing his candidacy. “But we do have a personal stake in the well-being of the town…If I’m going to do it, I want to do a good job. I’m going to be engaged, and I have no interest in doing it half-assed.”

Congrats, Fishman!
