You guys. This is the Phish! This is the Phish we know and love, the Phish we can’t get enough of. For their 43rd show of the year, Phish came dressed to impress. Well, everyone except Fishman.
Right out the gate, Phish got dark and nasty with Carini, which immediately set the tone for the evening. And the rest of the first set? AC/DC felt like a warm welcome home and even Possum had a seat for an early supper! Wombat was short and sweet, thankfully, and Wolfman’s kept it light and easy. As great as it was, the first set was merely an amuse bouche for what would come in the second set. Yes, I just used the word amuse bouche in reference to Phish!
I saw the Phish Playbill posted at set break, and freaked out. Ziggy! I was so thrilled! Here at PhanSite.com, we posted our prediction for Phish to cover Ziggy Stardust on Monday last week and we were right! And even better was we’d all now get to see Phish perform David Bowie’s incredible work, front to end, 11 songs, none of which the band had ever played! With an orchestra! And backup singers!
Ladies and gentlemen, this is why we follow Phish. What band would continue a 20-year Halloween tradition of “donning musical costumes” to pay homage to one of the greatest musicians of our time… what band? I ask you.
Update:The YouTube videos of the full show have been removed since this post was published; the video here is of the 2nd set Ziggy Stardust cover.
